# Install / run xfwl4 session
Derived from [migration conclusion](../research/xfce-wayland-migration/conclusions/migration.md) and [checklist conclusion](../research/xfce-wayland-checklist/conclusions/checklist.md).
1. Install: distro package with xfce44 + xfwl4 preview tarball (see [distro-packaging-dual-session](../research/xfce-wayland-migration/distro-packaging-dual-session.md)).
2. Keep X11 session installed (dual-session, no X11 removal).
3. Validate: `session/xfwl4-session.sh --check`, then `--dry-run`.
4. Acceptance: readiness gates in [00-checklist](../research/xfce-wayland-checklist/00-checklist.md); blocker = xdg-session-management restore.
