retoorandClaude Opus 5.5 1a1448ddd0 docs: WhatsApp research and native C++ build spec
No native Python WhatsApp library exists (neonize is whatsmeow over
ctypes, yowsup is dead) and no browser is needed. Spec for detz::wa:
native C++ transpiled from wa-go (MIT, golden vectors) with whatsmeow as
referee, libcurl WebSocket plus OpenSSL, no new dependencies, build vs
deep-research table, caps, tests, phases, and a whatsapp-mcp shortcut.
Research archive: research/whatsapp-automation (70 sources, 3
conclusions). Nothing built.

Summary

A Rust reimplementation, inspired by whatsmeow and Baileys, now including VoIP. Cloned and sized; not read in depth.

Key findings

  • Measured Rust lines by top directory: wacore 258,521, src 242,697, plugins 136,546, tools 43,830, tests 24,579, storages 16,872, waproto 3,615 (about 650,000 total).
  • License MIT; 941 stars; at least 100 commits in the last 90 days (API page limit reached on 2026-10-07).
  • Search listing: QR and pair-code login, Signal E2E, media, groups, calls; pluggable storage with SQLite default.

Pros / strengths

Very active, MIT, broad feature set; a second independent implementation to cross-check behaviour.

Cons / limitations / caveats

Far too large to transpile; the size is dominated by VoIP and plugins that detz does not need.

Relevance to tai

Rejected as a transpile source; useful only as a tie-breaker reference.
